Mission

Closing the capacity gap in African forensic science

Forensic science across Africa faces a structural challenge: highly trained practitioners work in isolation, standards are inconsistent between jurisdictions, and knowledge does not flow efficiently across borders. The result is a continent-wide capacity gap that weakens criminal justice systems and limits scientific collaboration.

The African Forensic Sciences Academy was established to address this directly. AFSA InfoHub is the infrastructure that makes it possible — a single, credible platform where practitioners can be found, knowledge can be accessed, and standards can be maintained at continental scale.

Principles

How the platform is built

01

Curated, not crowded

Every practitioner listing is human-reviewed before publication. No self-published profiles, no unapproved claims.

02

Private by default

Contact details stay hidden unless a practitioner explicitly shares them. The platform is built against bulk harvesting.

03

Evidence-grade identifiers

ORCID iDs, institutional affiliations, and AFSA membership status are verified — not just asserted.

04

Pan-African by design

The platform covers all 54 AU member states and supports practitioners working across jurisdictions and languages.

Background

About the Academy

The African Forensic Sciences Academy (AFSA) is a pan-African body dedicated to the development, standardisation, and promotion of forensic science across the continent. AFSA works with member institutions, national laboratories, universities, and justice-sector bodies to raise professional standards and build capacity where it is most needed.

AFSA InfoHub is AFSA's digital infrastructure — the platform through which its directory, library, events, and community programmes are delivered. Membership of the Academy provides access to enhanced platform features, including the full library, verified listing status, and CPD tracking.

FAQ

Common questions

Who can create a listing on InfoHub?

Any practitioner who is a citizen or resident of an African Union member state and works in a recognised forensic science discipline. Listings are reviewed by the AFSA editorial team before publication.

Is listing free?

A basic public listing is free. An enhanced listing — with a longer bio, institutional affiliation badge, and priority placement in search results — is available for a nominal annual fee. AFSA members receive the enhanced tier as part of their membership.

How is contact privacy protected?

Email addresses and phone numbers are never shown on the platform. Visitors can send a mediated contact request, which InfoHub forwards to the practitioner. The practitioner decides whether to reply and from which address.

How does CPD tracking work?

When you register for an event through InfoHub, attendance is recorded against your profile. You can export a CPD log at any time from your account settings for submission to a professional body.

Can institutions be listed alongside individuals?

Yes. Laboratories, universities, and forensic units can claim or create institutional pages. Practitioners then affiliate their profiles with an institution, which the institution administrator verifies.
